Why travelers stop here
Garyeokdo Port is a fishing port with a total length of 33.9 km between Buan and Gunsan. It is the most frequently used port by Buan-gun fishermen and, although under the jurisdiction of Buan-gun, it is also heavily used by fishing vessels from nearby Gunsan-si and Gimje-si. It is famous for producing a lot of blue crabs in spring and autumn, and is a popular fishing spot for recreational anglers. Fishing points include the inner harbor breakwater of Garyeokdo Port, Garyeok Gate Small Park, and the Saemangeum Seawall rocks. Depending on the season, tide, and conditions, various fish species such as Spanish mackerel, rockfish, greenling, goby, webfoot octopus, mackerel, Pacific saury, beltfish, and pike eel are caught. Garyeokdo Port is also a great place for a relaxing walk while enjoying the sea breeze, and the red sunset over the West Sea is breathtaking. Across the road from Garyeokdo Port, there is Garyeokdo Ecological Park, an observatory, and wind turbines.
