Garyeong Falls

강원특별자치도 홍천군 내촌면 와야리 산12-1

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Garyeong Falls is a waterfall hidden in nature at the southwestern foot of Baekamsan Mountain (1,099m), a remote area. It is also called Gaeryeong Falls, meaning 'opening the soul.' As the 5th of Hongcheon's 9 Scenic Views, it features a majestic torrent of water cascading down a rocky cliff about 50 meters high with a thunderous roar. The surrounding area is home to numerous types of wild greens, medicinal herbs, and wildflowers, making it a paradise for mountain birds. Garyeong Falls is known as a waterfall that rarely reveals itself due to the dense forest. The area around the falls is sparsely populated, making it one of the waterfalls that still retains clean cascades and natural beauty. The path to Garyeong Falls has many slopes and is covered with stones and soil, so it is advisable to wear sturdy shoes. The common route goes via Hongcheon-Cheoljeong Checkpoint-Naechon-myeon Dogwan-ri-Oea Samgeori-Yeonhwasa Temple. From Yeonhwasa Temple, following the forest path and stream for about 20 minutes leads to the waterfall, which, though modest in size, produces a powerful sound as it falls, offering a cool and refreshing escape from the summer heat. Address: San 12-1, Wayari, Naechon-myeon, Hongcheon-gun, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province
