Mongchon Toseong (Mongchon Earthen Fortress)

Mongchon Toseong, located inside Olympic Park, is an earthen fortress of Baekje built by compacting mud to form walls, utilizing the natural terrain along a tributary of the Han River. Notably, traces of wooden palisades were discovered on the stepped northern wall, indicating that it was defended with wooden fences. The fortress was constructed in a nested structure of outer and inner walls using the ridge extending from Namhansanseong, and is considered one of the major fortresses from the Hanseong period (3rd–4th century) when Baekje established its ancient state. It is presumed to be the site of Hanam Wiryeseong and is designated as a Historic Site. Heading toward Mongchon Toseong from Olympic Park's North Gate 2, you will find the Mongchon History Museum. This museum displays artifacts excavated during the excavation of Mongchon Toseong, offering a glimpse into the history of the fortress and the traces of Baekje culture.
