Gamami Beach

전남광주통합특별시 영광군 홍농읍 가마미로 355

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Located 24 km west of Yeonggwang-eup, this beach opened in 1925. It features a crescent-shaped white sand beach 1 km long and 200 m wide, with a dense pine forest of about 2,000 trees stretching along the coast, creating a cozy atmosphere. The water depth is only 1–2 m and the water is clean, making it one of the three major beaches in Honam. The name 'Gamami' (駕馬尾) is said to come from the shape of the Geumjeongsan Mountain behind, resembling the tail of a horse wearing a yoke. The beach is home to the natural monument Yellow-billed Egret and Black-tailed Gull. In front of the beach, numerous islands dot the sea, and the sight of fishing boats leisurely sailing on the water is extremely peaceful. The sunset over the West Sea, which dyes the Chilsan Sea red, offers a different charm from the East Sea sunrise. Near the beach are the Baeksu Coastal Tourist Road, known for its outstanding coastal scenery; Dombaeseom Island, famous as a sea fishing spot; and Chilsando, where seven islands of similar size and shape float in a straight line on the horizon. It is also recommended to climb Geumjeongsan Mountain behind the beach at dusk to view the sunset disappearing into the sea. Address: 355 Gamami-ro, Hongnong-eup, Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do
