Why travelers stop here

Yangcheon Ancient Fortress Site is a ridge-top fortress built by surrounding the main ridge and branch ridges at the summit of Gungsan Mountain in Gayang-dong, Gangseo-gu, Seoul. Gungsan Mountain is located at the confluence of Anyangcheon Stream and the Han River, serving as an important stronghold for defending the lower Han River. The fortress has steep slopes on the north side facing the Han River and gentle slopes on the south side, with a length of approximately 220m and an area of 29,370㎡. Records of the fortress remain in various historical documents such as *Sinjeung Dongguk Yeoji Seungnam*, *Yeoji Doseo*, and *Daedong Jiji*, and traces of the fortress walls, including foundation stones and wall stones, can be identified. It is said that during the Imjin War, General Gwon Yul stayed here before crossing the Han River to achieve victory at Haengju Fortress. Along with Haengju Fortress and Odu Fortress, it holds significant importance as a key defensive base for the Han River.
