Jangsu Park (Yeolnyeomun)

Jangsu Park, one of the landmarks of Sinwol-dong, stretches from Sinjeong Intersection's 'Water Flowing Street' to the Sinwol-dong covered road. It features health pressure paths and badminton courts, making it a park suitable for walking and exercise. The Haenuri Fountain Plaza on Water Flowing Street serves as a waterside park and a joyful playground for children in the city, offering a cool respite. In the central square of Jangsu Park, a monument for veterans of the Korean War and the Vietnam War has been erected to honor those who served. Walking along the pleasant paths of Jangsu Park, you will encounter Yeolnyeomun (Gate of a Virtuous Woman). The subject of this gate, Lady Lee, was born as a precious daughter of the prestigious Jeonui Lee clan but lost her husband early. Overwhelmed with grief, she refused food and starved herself to death in her late twenties. Upon learning of this, the royal court in 1729 (the 5th year of King Yeongjo's reign) bestowed the Yeolnyeomun with a plaque inscribed 'Gate of the Virtuous Woman, Lady Lee of Jeonui, Wife of Student Won Jeong-ik' to commemorate her noble spirit.
