Yun Geuk-yeong House

서울특별시 강북구 인수봉로84길 5 (수유동)

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Seoul Metropolitan City selects and manages treasures among modern and contemporary cultural heritage that are worth passing on to future generations as 'Seoul Future Heritage'. National 4·19 Democratic Cemetery, Mun Ik-hwan House, etc. are included in this, and Yun Geuk-yeong House holds special significance as it was the first to be selected among them. Yun Geuk-yeong, who was active in the 1920s and 1930s, composed children's songs such as 'Half Moon', 'New Year's Day', 'Three Umbrellas Side by Side', and 'Icicle'. He produced 'Half Moon', Korea's first children's song collection, and is also called 'Half Moon Grandfather'. The house where he stayed during his lifetime is currently used as the Half Moon Cultural Center, warmly welcoming visitors. The space where Yun Geuk-yeong's relics are displayed, with traces of long years added, feels as comfortable as visiting a grandfather's house. The faintly flowing children's song melodies evoke childhood memories.
