Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

With the expansion of the church in the Gangnam area, it was newly established on August 1, 1984 by dividing part of the jurisdiction (2,263 people) of Daechi-dong Cathedral and Yangjae-dong Cathedral. The first priest, Kim Gu-hee (John), was appointed, and the patron saint was designated as 'Saint Choi Gyeong-hwan (Francis)'. A temporary building was constructed and used while preparing for the dedication of the new cathedral. On December 25, 1992, construction of the new cathedral began on the site donated by brother Kim Dae-hwan. Five years after the start of construction, a huge and beautiful cathedral with a total floor area of 3,960 pyeong and a net construction cost of approximately 12 billion won was completed, and on September 21, 1997, Cardinal Kim Su-hwan presided over the dedication ceremony of the new cathedral.
