Bukaksan Sukjeongmun Gate

서울특별시 종로구 삼청동

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Sukjeongmun Gate is one of the Four Great Gates (Sadaemun) that make up the Seoul City Wall, serving as the northern main gate of Hanyangdoseong. Originally named Sukcheongmun, it was later renamed Sukjeongmun. Among the existing city gates, this is the only one with the fortress walls connected on both the left and right sides. The gate pavilion was newly built in 1976. Access was restricted to the general public for the security of the Blue House, but it was reopened in April 2006 along with a 0.5 km section of the western fortress wall and a 0.6 km section of the northern access road. On January 21, 1963, it was designated as Historic Site No. 10 as part of the Seoul Hanyangdoseong.
