Gasil Catholic Church

Gasil Catholic Church was established in 1895 as the 11th parish of the Joseon Diocese, with its first parish priest being Father Ha Gyeong-jo of the Paris Foreign Missions Society. The parish's extensive jurisdiction included 31 mission stations, and the current church and rectory were completed in 1924. The church's patron saint church remains as a People's Army hospital, and the priests of the Benedictine Order who fled from the North due to the war have been serving the Gasil Catholic Church since 1952. There are a total of four places that were once part of Gasil Catholic Church and later became independent parishes: Gimcheon Hwanggeum-dong, Yongpyeong, Toegang, and Waegwan. As part of the centennial project in 1995, the current Our Lady's Chapel was established, and stained glass windows that enhance the sacred atmosphere of the church were installed.
