Newspaper Museum

The Newspaper Museum is a space that offers a comprehensive view of the 140-year history of Korean newspapers since the first modern newspaper in Korea, Hanseong Sunbo, was first published in 1883. It was opened in 2000, crossing the boundary of centuries, by The Dong-A Ilbo to reflect on the history of Korean newspapers and foresee the future through its lessons. Worldwide, newspaper museums are rare, including the International Newspaper Museum established in Aachen, Germany in 1931, the Newseum in Washington, D.C., USA, and the Japan Newspaper Museum in Yokohama, Japan. This museum stands as a symbolic institution alongside advanced countries with long histories of journalism.

Newspapers are vessels of history, breathing the daily history of politics, economy, society, and culture. Therefore, the Newspaper Museum, which collects the past and present of newspapers that have repeatedly risen and fallen with the times, can be seen as a condensed historical site.
