Ilmin Museum of Art

Ilmin Museum of Art is a museum that exhibits popular and contemporary modern artworks. Operated by the Ilmin Cultural Foundation, it was established to honor the will of the late Kim Sang-man (former honorary chairman of The Dong-A Ilbo), who dedicated his life to journalism and cultural promotion. Located in the former building of The Dong-A Ilbo, it started as the Ilmin Cultural Center and was registered as the Ilmin Museum of Art in 1996. After a full renovation, it reopened in 2002 with a large exhibition hall and the Ilmin Collection. The exhibition space consists of three halls on the first, second, and third floors. Auxiliary facilities include a cafe on the first floor and the Gidung Bookstore, where various art products and printed publications can be purchased. The museum houses the Ilmin Collection, which includes ceramics and calligraphy from the Goryeo and Joseon dynasties, modern paintings, entrusted collections from The Dong-A Ilbo, and contemporary artworks. The Ilmin Collection, consisting of ceramics and calligraphy collected by Mr. Ilmin during his lifetime, is noted for its elegant and simple beauty. The Dong-A Ilbo collection, including illustrations from The Dong-A Ilbo, Shindonga, and Women's Dong-A, is an important resource reflecting an era.
