Independence Declaration Distribution Site

In Jongno-gu, Seoul, just across the street from Unhyeongung Palace, you will find a small marker stone that reads 'Independence Declaration Distribution Site.' This is the location where independence activists gathered to review and distribute the Declaration of Independence during the March 1st Movement in 1919. Even today, stones inscribed with the names of the 33 national representatives and the comfort women victims are placed in front of the marker, evoking a solemn atmosphere. It is said that the March 1st Independence Declaration was printed at the nearby Boseong Printing Office, stored in the yard of the under-construction Cheondogyo Grand Church (right next to the current distribution site), and then distributed to religious and student representatives. Although it is located by a roadside where people pass by absentmindedly and can easily be overlooked, it is a special and precious place where one can feel and reflect on the pride of the spring of 1919, when people risked their lives for the nation's independence.
