Why travelers stop here
This is a small oreum (volcanic cone) located on the roadside at the southwestern foot of Jeoji Oreum, featuring a circular crater shaped like a cauldron. Locals call it Gamaechang because the crater resembles a pot bottom, and it is also known as Amme or Gamae Oreum. It is situated on the right side of the road a short distance from the Jeoji-ri Jeocheong Elementary School intersection in Hangyeong-myeon toward Sudong; climbing a few steps up the hill with pine trees reveals the crater. Gamaechang has the lowest relative height among Jeju's 368 official oreums, making it difficult to distinguish even from close range. The crater has a circumference of about 300m and a depth of 16m, carved deeper than the outer slope's relative height (6m). Its height from the road is only 6m. The oreum is gently encircled by grassy ridges, and the crater floor was once used as farmland but is now overgrown with bushes and difficult to access.
