Muju is famous for Deogyusan Mountain in winter and the Firefly Festival in summer, but there is another famous thing: 'Eojuk' (fish porridge). Muju's eojuk, made with freshly caught fish from the clean waters of the Geumgang River, rivals 'Geumsan Eojuk' in Chungcheongnam-do and 'Yedangho Eojuk' in Yesan, Chungcheongnam-do. You can taste the eojuk that was boiled and eaten under the hot summer sun after a childhood fishing trip, or the eojuk that fishermen and farmers along the river boiled as a summer health food, right here in Muju.
