Geommeolle Beach is a famous beach on Udo Island, a volcanic island located northeast of Seongsanpo on the eastern tip of Jeju Island. It is hidden in a valley below Udobong Peak. Although it is a small beach about 100 meters wide, it is a place where you can enjoy sea bathing combined with sand therapy. The beach is connected to the road by stairs. 'Geom' in Geommeolle means 'black', and 'meolle' means 'sand', referring to the black sand beach. At the end of the beach, there is a cave with a legend that whales once lived there. This cave, resembling a cow's nostril, is called 'Geomkkeokumang' (Black Nose Cave). At high tide, only the upper part of the cave is visible, but at low tide, the entire cave is exposed and accessible. Inside the cave, there are small stone towers built by tourists, and it is large enough to have hosted small concerts. Past Geomkkeokumang, another cave appears, with an entirely red interior, called 'Bulkkeokumang' (Red Nose Cave). Also known as Dongangyeonggul Cave, it is one of the Eight Scenic Views of Udo. If you want to see the hidden beauty of Udo from the sea, taking a boat tour around Geommeolle is also recommended.
