Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

This is the shrine of General Jeong Gi-ryong, a loyal and righteous subject of Jinju, who held the title of Boguksongnokdaebu. General Jeong Gi-ryong's pen name was Maeheon. He was born in 1562 (the 17th year of King Myeongjong's reign) during the Joseon Dynasty and passed away in 1622 (the 14th year of King Gwanghaegun's reign) while serving as the commander of the three armies at the Hansando Naval Headquarters. After passing the military examination, Jeong Gi-ryong rescued General Jo Gyeong, the commander of Gyeongsang Udo, who had been captured by the enemy during the Imjin War, earning the title of general. Subsequently, he achieved over 80 victories in battles large and small. During the reign of King Gwanghaegun, he served as Jijungchubusa, Owi Dochongbu Chonggwan, Dochonggwan, and Samdo Sugun Tongjesa, eventually reaching the rank of Boguksongnokdaebu. The shrine was built in 1932 by local scholars and descendants to perpetuate the general's loyalty and righteousness, and it holds ancestral rites for the general. Since 1989, the Gyeongchungsa sacred site project has been actively pursued, and a youth training village for Hadong County has been established there.
