Why travelers stop here
Gwaneumjeongsa, a prayer sanctuary located on the mid-slope of Bulmosan Mountain in Jillye-myeon, Gimhae-si, is situated near Pyeongji Pond and serves as the main headquarters of Korea's Maitreya Buddhism. The temple houses a clay-gilt seated bodhisattva statue, a rare late 19th to early 20th century work made using unfired clay molding techniques. The main hall enshrines Maitreya Buddha instead of Sakyamuni Buddha. Another cultural property is the Cheonjimyeongyangsuryukjaeuiichanyo, a collection of Buddhist rituals for wandering spirits on land and water, published in 1637, which serves as important material for understanding popular Joseon dynasty texts and comparing various regional editions.
