Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Gwangdaegok, the 8th scenic spot of Hwaam Eight Views, is a mysterious valley where the sky, clouds, and earth meet. Since ancient times, there has been a legend that impure people are forbidden from entering. According to the legend, if someone eats unclean food (chicken or dog meat) and enters the mountain, all tree branches appear as snakes, and if not, they often suffer injuries. Therefore, before exploring the famous Gwangdaegok, one must purify the body and mind. In the rugged valley, approximately 4km from the entrance, there are caves, 12 Dragon Ponds, and waterfalls. In order, these include Sodo Cave (where prayers were offered to the mountain god), Candle Rock, Layer Rock, Screen Rock, Yeongcheon Waterfall, Golbaengi Pond, Bagaji Pond, Seonnyeo Waterfall, Guyong Pond, Piyong Pond, Baem Yong Pond, Chi Pond, Yongdae Rock, Hangari Pond, Gama Pond, and Sikgi Pond. In particular, Gwangdaegok is a famous mountain where ginseng hunters pray to the mountain god to find wild ginseng, and many still visit this place today.
