Why travelers stop here
Suwoljeong Pavilion is located within Sanmak-gil, a 10-ri (approximately 4 km) trekking course that follows the scenic views of Goesan Dam from Sao-ri Village in Oesa-ri, Chilseong-myeon, Goesan-gun to Sanmak-i Village. It is the place where the mid-Joseon civil official No Su-sin lived in exile.
No Su-sin passed the civil service examination in the 38th year of King Jungjong’s reign (1543) and studied alongside Yi Hwang. In 1545, due to the Eulsa Coup, he was dismissed from office and exiled to places such as Suncheon, Jindo, and Goesan. After King Seonjo ascended the throne, he was reinstated and eventually rose to the position of Yeonguijeong (Chief State Councilor).
