Former Boseong Inn

Former Boseong Inn is a Japanese-style two-story building constructed in 1935, which well preserves the characteristics of Japanese wooden architecture and holds significant preservation value. It served as the actual model for 'Namdo Inn,' where the rebel suppression commander Im Man-su and his troops stayed in the epic novel Taebaek Mountains and the film of the same name, and was registered as a Registered Cultural Heritage in 2004. In 2008, the National Trust for Cultural Heritage purchased Boseong Inn and completed the restoration of the damaged building in 2011. In particular, Former Boseong Inn is a rare surviving Japanese-style inn that blends hanok and Japanese elements, holding high value in modern architectural history and daily life history. Additionally, Former Boseong Inn is not only a building but also an important base forming the modern and contemporary historical and cultural environment of Beolgyo, Boseong-gun, possessing high value. Even during the era that served as the backdrop for the novel Taebaek Mountains, this building was an inn, and its actual name at that time was also Boseong Inn. The two-story building, built in a typical Japanese style with black plank walls and a tin roof, remains in its original form. It was used as an inn and commercial space until it was registered as a Registered Cultural Heritage in 2004 for its high value in modern architectural history and daily life history. Currently, it operates not only as a viewing site but also as a lodging facility where visitors can experience a night in a modern cultural heritage site.
