Why travelers stop here
The Geumgang Estuary Dam is located between Seocheon-gun, Chungcheongnam-do and Gunsan-si, Jeollabuk-do. After the completion of the Geumgang Estuary Dam in 1990, winter migratory birds began to visit, and the Geumgang Estuary became the best birdwatching spot in Korea where you can see migratory birds up close. The Geumgang Estuary Migratory Bird Sanctuary, not far from the Bird Ecology Exhibition Hall, is the largest migratory bird sanctuary in Korea and is considered Geumgang's first scenic spot and Seocheon's second scenic spot. Every winter, tens of thousands of rare migratory birds such as Baikal teals, mallards, and black-headed gulls fly in to create a spectacular sight, with over 40 species and 50 individuals visiting. In particular, the synchronized flight of Baikal teals taking off with a majestic sound of flapping wings overwhelms viewers with the mystery of nature. A bicycle path, bird observation facilities, and a bird ecology park have been established along the 1.3km section from the Bird Ecology Exhibition Hall to the Geumgang Ecology Park, with sculptures installed. There are two migratory bird observation decks within the Geumgang Ecology Park, offering a panoramic view of the migratory bird sanctuary.
