Geumsidang, nestled in a beautiful landscape along the Miryang River with a forest of large pine trees, possesses natural purity, beauty, and a long history. It was designated as Gyeongnam Cultural Heritage Material in 1996 and was built in 1566 as a villa by Yi Gwang-jin, a civil official of the mid-Joseon period. Currently, Geumsidang is owned and managed by his descendants, the Yeoju Yi clan. After his death, his son Yi Gyeong-hong inherited his father's will and began using it as a lecture hall to educate future generations. The garden of Geumsidang exudes a quiet, restrained elegance and a sense of empty space. A 460-year-old ginkgo tree occupying one part of the garden boasts such grandeur that it leaves visitors speechless. In particular, this ginkgo tree is said to have been personally planted by Yi Gwang-jin, and it still boasts lush green leaves in summer and yellow leaves in autumn.
