Geumjeonsan Mountain

전라남도 순천시 낙안면 상송리

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Geumjeonsan Mountain (elevation 668m), located behind Nagan Eupseong in Nagan-myeon, was originally called Soesan Mountain but was renamed Geumjeonsan about 100 years ago. The Chinese character meaning is 'money mountain made of gold,' but according to the monks of Geumgangam Hermitage, it originates from Buddhism, derived from Geumjeon Biku, one of the Five Hundred Bhikkhus (Five Hundred Arhats), the outstanding disciples of the Buddha.

Geumjeonsan Mountain, part of the secondary ridge branching off from the Honam Jeongmaek mountain range that connects Baegisan, Godongsan, and Jogyesan, has its western summit entirely covered in rocks, forming a spectacular cliff. At sunset, the rocky mountain glows red, evoking mystery and awe. The mountain is composed of large rock formations, giving a sense of massiveness, and from a distance, it resembles the Chinese character for gold (金). Hiking trails to the summit include a course from the top of Buljae passing through Guneungsu, a course from Ogeumjae, the pass connecting Nagan to Sangsaho, and a direct course from Nagan Hot Springs to Geumgangam Hermitage.
