It is said that Jangsari was shaped like a snake and Jukdo like a raccoon, but the snake came to eat the raccoon and could not come because there was a Noryong (old dragon) on this island, so it stayed at Jukdo. Therefore, it was called Noryongdo Island because it was an island with an old dragon, and later changed to Noryeokdo Island. Also, because the water is good, it is called Noryeokdo Island as an island where the elderly live long. In 1896, when Wando-gun was established, it was incorporated into Wando, then in 1914 it was incorporated into Daedeok-myeon, Jangheung-gun, and in 1986 it became part of Hoejin-myeon, Jangheung-gun, reaching the present day. Hoejin Bridge connecting the mainland of Hoejin-myeon and Noryeokdo Island was built, making it land-connected. From Hoejin Bridge to Noryeokhang Terminal, a coastal road connects, and most of the coast is sandy, with tidal flats developed on the west coast. In front of Noryeokdo Port, Geumdangdo Island and Joyakdo Island are visible, with Geumildo Island and Saengildo Island between them.
