Neungheodae

An old dock located in Okryeon-dong, Seo-gu, Incheon. Neungheodae is the site of a ferry port from which envoys departed when traveling to and from China, from the 27th year of King Geunchogo's reign, when Baekje began diplomatic relations with China's Eastern Jin, until the 21st year of King Gaero's reign (475), when the capital was moved to Ungjin. At the time of Baekje's diplomatic relations with Eastern Jin, Korea's political situation was such that Baekje was hostile to Goguryeo and Silla, while China was divided into the Northern and Southern Dynasties, which were also in conflict. Amid this confrontation, Baekje envoys, who primarily had relations with the Southern Dynasties, could not use the land route via Goguryeo, which was hostile and had relations with the Northern Dynasties. Instead, they had to use a sea route from Hannaru at the base of Neungheodae to Dengzhou and Laizhou on the Shandong Peninsula.
