Dorimsa (Gwangju)

Dorimsa is a shrine located at the entrance of Dorim Village in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, dedicated to Nosa Gi Jeong-jin (1798–1879), Nanwa O Gye-su (1843–1915), and Huseok O Jun-seon (1851–1931). In 1866, during the French campaign against Korea (Byeonginyangyo), Gi Jeong-jin submitted a memorial (Byeonginso) proposing measures to defend against foreign forces and laid the foundation for the ideology of 'wijeongcheoksa' (defending orthodoxy and rejecting heterodoxy). O Gye-su, a disciple of Gi Jeong-jin, participated in the Eulmi Righteous Army uprising following the Eulmi Incident (1895). After the Japan-Korea Annexation in 1910, he retreated to Yeongsajae, located in the mountain behind Gama Village, where he lived in seclusion and pursued scholarly studies. O Jun-seon, also a disciple of Gi Jeong-jin, entered Yongjinsan Mountain after the annexation, established Yongjinjeongsa, and devoted himself to the study of Neo-Confucianism while nurturing younger scholars.

In 1934, the Naju O clan and the later disciples of O Gye-su and O Jun-seon built Dorimsa to honor O Gye-su, O Jun-seon, and Gi Jeong-jin. Dorim Village is the birthplace of O Gye-su and O Jun-seon and serves as a clan village for the Naju O family.
