Dokdaeseom Island

충청남도 보령시 웅천읍 독산리

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Dokdaeseom Island is a rocky island located at the southern end of Doksan Beach (Holmoe Beach) in Boryeong, well known for its red-tinted sunsets. Centered around Dokdaeseom Island, wide tidal flats and sandy beaches extend left and right, creating a unique terrain where the island connects to the mainland during low tide. The tidal flats spreading south of Dokdaeseom Island are rich in seafood, including razor clams, stone crabs, and whelks, and the waters around the island are abundant with fish species, making it a good spot for fishing. In the sea in front of Dokdaeseom Island, Jigeondo Island and Hwangjukdo Island are neatly aligned in a row.

Usually, the water recedes only as far as Dokdaeseom Island, but around the full moon and new moon, the water recedes all the way to Jigeondo Island, creating a mysterious sea path along with Seokdaedo Island in Muchangpo. Some areas of Dokdaeseom Island are military zones, so access to the interior of the island is restricted, but walking along the coast of Dokdaeseom Island is possible during low tide. Nearby, there are many accommodations such as pensions, guesthouses, and camping sites.
