Seosang-ri Three-story Stone Pagoda

Seosang-ri Three-story Stone Pagoda is a three-story stone pagoda from the late Unified Silla period located in Chuncheon-si, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province. It was designated as a Tangible Cultural Property of Gangwon-do on December 16, 1971. Made of granite, it stands in a field that is said to be the former site of Yanghwasa Temple, built during the Silla period. It is unclear whether the base part was originally a single-story base or if some parts have been lost; the foundation stone consists of two high stone slabs, with the base middle stone placed behind them. The top part retains the square roof-shaped decoration (noban) and the bowl-shaped decoration (bokbal). Except for the lower base part, the preservation condition is good, and in 1980, the pagoda was dismantled and restored due to tilting. Many roof tile fragments are found around the pagoda. Although the body above the second floor tapers too steeply, giving a somewhat unbalanced appearance, the composition of each part is simple, evoking an elegant beauty typical of late Unified Silla stone pagodas.
