Dongbaek Bridge

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Dongbaek Bridge is a four-lane round-trip bridge with a length of 1,930m connecting Gunsan City in Jeonbuk and Janghang-eup, Seocheon in Chungnam. Originally, Gunsan and Janghang are close in distance across the Geumgang estuary, but the nearest bridge was the Geumgang Estuary Dam, causing inconvenience of a 30-minute detour or using a ferry at the ferry dock. To resolve this inconvenience, construction of Dongbaek Bridge began in 2008 and opened in 2018. As a result, travel time was reduced to 5 minutes, and the beautiful arch shape of the bridge has become a local landmark. While driving across this bridge, the scenery of the West Sea and Geumgang River unfolding on both sides is also beautiful. The name Dongbaek Bridge was inspired by the fact that the county flowers of both Gunsan City and Seocheon County are the camellia (dongbaek). The flower language of the camellia is [I love you more than anyone else], and it carries the meaning that both local governments wish to wisely develop together for the future through Dongbaek Bridge. The road on Dongbaek Bridge is designated as National Routes 4 and 77, and nearby attractions include Gunsan Wolmyeong Park, Haemang Cave, and Gunsan Fisheries Comprehensive Center, allowing for linked tourism.
