Destination briefing
Why travelers stop here
Uiam Hydropower Plant is located downstream from the confluence of the Bukhangang River and the Soyanggang River in Uiam-ri, Sindong-myeon, Chuncheon-si, Gangwon-do. The Uiam Hydropower Plant generates electricity in conjunction with the upstream Chuncheon and Soyanggang plants and the downstream Cheongpyeong plant. The electricity produced here passes through transmission lines connected to the Cheongpyeong Hydropower Plant and is supplied to the Gyeongin region, playing a part in the power supply for the Seoul metropolitan area. Additionally, by regulating the inflow from upstream, it supplies water during dry periods and plays a role in flood control during the summer when water levels rise. The construction of the Uiam Dam for the Uiam Hydropower Plant created an artificial lake, Uiam Lake, around which beautiful natural scenery has formed, attracting many visitors every year.
