Marado (Mara Marine Provincial Park)

Located at 33 degrees 6 minutes 33 seconds north latitude and 126 degrees 11 minutes 3 seconds east longitude, this island floats at the southernmost tip of the national territory. It features a lighthouse marked on world nautical charts, and the natural grass that almost covers the entire island gives it a unique feel. With an area of 0.3㎢, the island's coastline consists of steep cliffs, offering beautiful natural scenery. About 30 households with around 80 residents engage in fishing, and regular passenger ferries and sightseeing boats operate multiple round trips from Moseulpo Port and Sansuisu-dong Pier. It is also famous as a sea fishing spot where species such as bengae-dom (black rockfish) and gamseong-dom (black sea bream) are commonly caught. People began living on this island in 1883 when three families migrated here. Due to food shortages at the time, they subsisted on seafood, and when they set fire to the dense forests to cultivate crops, it is said that snakes and frogs have not lived here ever since.
