Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

On the slopes of Hambaeksan Mountain, there is Manhangjae, a famous spot for snow flowers, and Jeongamsa Temple, where the snow-covered scenery is particularly beautiful. Manhangjae is a pass that forms the boundary between Jeongseon, Taebaek, and Yeongwol in Gangwon-do. The pure white world spread out on the high ridge and the layered waves of the Baekdudaegan mountain range below provide a sense of ecstasy just by standing and gazing from the pass. Manhangjae is always accompanied by the epithet 'a heavenly flower garden.' From spring to autumn, various wildflowers bloom abundantly, and in the early morning, fog rolls in, creating a dreamy landscape. While all the scenery is beautiful, the true charm of Manhangjae lies in winter. The location of Manhangjae is where the Hambaeksan Mountain range flows down to Taebaeksan Mountain and pauses briefly, reaching an altitude of 1330m above sea level. Because it is a high-altitude and very cold region, a fantastic snowy landscape unfolds throughout the winter. Manhangjae is also famous as the highest pass in Korea that can be reached by car. You can enjoy the beautiful snow-covered scenery without having to do a difficult hike.
