Destination briefing
Why travelers stop here
Mechuri Island is an island located in front of the village called Heulgot-dong, named because it is at the southern tip of Daebudo Island. The island's shape resembles a quail with a pointed beak, hence the name. Fishing and collecting marine products around Mechuri Island are illegal, and due to litter issues, open camping, car camping, and fishing are not allowed; only tidal flat experience is possible. The tidal flat experience is operated by Heulgot Fishing Village, and on weekends, a tractor takes visitors to the distant tidal flats, with access to restrooms, showers, and foot-washing facilities.
Ansan Daebu Haesol-gil is a nature-friendly trail consisting of 10 courses that allow you to circle Daebudo Island along paths and the coastline. Among them, Haesol-gil Course 4 runs from Jjokbak Island to Mechuri Island, Goraeburi Pier, Daenam Elementary School, Neureutburi An-gil, and Yurisom Museum, totaling 11.5 km and taking about 3 to 4 hours, offering beautiful coastal scenery. Along with Mechuri Island, you can enjoy a quiet walking tour while viewing other rocky islands visible toward the tidal flats and sea, and if time permits, you can also enjoy a stunning sunset.
