Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Myeongwoljinseong Fortress had a circumference of 3,020 cheok and a height of 8 cheok, with gates on the east, south, and west sides. Inside the fortress, there was a spring with abundant water, and buildings such as a guesthouse, a separate warehouse, and an armory once stood, but none remain today. Myeongwolpo is the landing site where, in 1270 (the 11th year of King Wonjong of Goryeo), Yi Mun-gyeong, a general of the Sambyeolcho, suppressed the government forces dispatched from Goryeo and occupied Tamna. It is also where Kim Bang-gyeong's vanguard landed when he subjugated the Sambyeolcho. Furthermore, in 1374 (the 23rd year of King Gongmin), when Mongolian herders dispatched from Mongolia to manage the ranches revolted, General Choe Yeong landed at Myeongwolpo to suppress the rebellion.
