Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Muyangsanseong Fortress is a round-shaped mountain fortress built on the southwestern peak of Goseongsan Mountain in Bangsin-ri, Yangseong-myeon, Anseong-si, Gyeonggi-do. It is a complex-type fortress consisting of an inner fortress, which encircles the summit using the 207.5m-high mountain peak and the 80% ridge line, and an outer fortress, which surrounds the surrounding valley area including the southeastern valley. The total circumference is 680m for the inner fortress and 400m for the outer fortress, forming a long oval shape. The outer fortress extends northeastward, including part of the inner fortress. Excavated facilities include a gate site, a bastion, building sites, and a well site. The site is located at a strategic point where river transportation routes and land routes connecting to the Samnam region were developed, and it is presumed to have been the administrative center of ancient Sabokheul and Jeokseong-hyeon. This assumption is based on the concentrated excavation of roof tiles and pottery from the Three Kingdoms Period and Unified Silla Period during trial excavations at Unsuam Hermitage and its surroundings within the fortress. The entrance to Unsuam Hermitage is presumed to be the gate site of the inner fortress, and a walking path has been created on the left side of the access road, making it a good place for a stroll and sightseeing.
