Boseon Gang-gol Village

Boseon Gang-gol Village, also called Deukryang Village, is a clan village of the Gwangju Lee clan. It is adjacent to Obong Mountain and Deukryang Bay, and was selected as a Record-Loving Village by the National Archives of Korea in 2012. Additionally, three houses in this village—the Lee Geum-jae House, the Lee Yong-uk House, the Lee Sik-rae House, and one pavilion, Yeolhwajeong—have been designated as Important Folklore Materials. The Lee Yong-uk House, located in the center of the village, features a unique structure with a high gate and walls that block the sarang yard from being exposed to the outside, showcasing the typical style of a Joseon-era nobleman's house. The Lee Sik-rae House, which gives a cozy feel, is distinctive for its bamboo grove surrounding the house and its thatched-roof living quarters, while the storage sheds for farming tools and grains are tiled-roof houses. The inner quarters of the Lee Geum-jae House were built around 1900, and the rest were constructed in the early 20th century, representing a typical nobleman's house of the Samnam region. Yeolhwajeong, located in the forest behind the village, preserves traditional Korean landscaping techniques by utilizing the surrounding forest to create a beautiful space, and the pond next to the pavilion is impressive. Here, you can experience the special 'Uncomfortable Night in a Traditional House.' By minimizing modern conveniences with traditional toilets, well water, and optional discomforts like lighting a fire in the furnace, modern people tired of predictability can experience emotional purification and the warm sentiment unique to rural areas. Although it is a raw experience devoid of convenience, it is said that those who visit once never forget the experience.
