Gadeokdo Lighthouse

One of the manned lighthouses built in the late Joseon Dynasty, it began operation in December 1909 and was designated as Busan Metropolitan City Tangible Cultural Property on September 16, 2003. It features a Gothic style, which makes it similar to French lighthouse tower designs. The entrance has a protruding sloped porch made of wood to match the width of the entry stairs, and the upper plaque bears the plum blossom pattern, a symbol of the Joseon royal family, resulting in a structure that blends Korean, Japanese, and European architectural styles. It is one of the first buildings to use modern Western architectural styles and materials, and it preserves much of its original form compared to other lighthouses, making it a cultural property of outstanding historical and architectural value.
