At the end of World War II, as Japan's military power rapidly declined, the Japanese military built defensive facilities in Busan and along the surrounding coast to prepare for a U.S. amphibious landing. The artificial caves in Gadeokdo Daehang Village appear to have been created under these circumstances. About ten artificial caves have been discovered in Gadeokdo Daehang, and it is said that coal miners were brought in to construct them. The caves come in I-shaped, T-shaped, L-shaped, and connected double-cave forms, with some caves having internal passages so intertwined in a cross shape that they are quite long. Inside the caves, sculptures have been placed to help visitors easily understand the situation of the time, making it a place to reflect on the traces of a heartbreaking history.
