Daewongun's Villa (Seokpajeong)

서울특별시 종로구 창의문로11길 4-1 (부암동)

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Built in the late Joseon Dynasty as a detached villa of Heungseon Daewongun, it is designated as a tangible cultural heritage of Seoul. Surrounded by the rocky slopes of Inwangsan Mountain, Heungseon Daewongun named it 'Seokpajeong,' and it is also called Samgyedong Pavilion. The villa, originally consisting of seven main buildings, a hexagonal pavilion, and various structures such as Yususeongjunggwanpungnu, now only retains four buildings: the inner quarters, the sarangchae (men's quarters), the detached quarters, and a pavilion. It boasts beautiful scenery and exquisite architecture, allowing visitors to experience the elegance and artistic sentiment of ancestors. Currently operated by the Seoul Museum of Art, it offers various modern and contemporary art exhibitions, and admission to the museum allows viewing of the Seokpajeong outdoor garden.
