Statue of General John B. Coulter

This is a statue of General John B. Coulter located across from the statue of General Eulji Mundeok at the rear entrance of Seoul Children's Grand Park. In recognition of his contributions to the reconstruction of Korea, which was devastated after the Korean War, the statue was originally erected in Itaewon in October 1959. It was later relocated to Seoul Children's Grand Park in 1977. During the Korean War, General John B. Coulter (1891–1983), who served as the deputy commander of the U.S. Eighth Army during the critical Battle of Pohang, took command of the I Corps as part of the Eighth Army when the war broke out in 1950, playing a major role in halting the North Korean advance. In September, he led support units for the counteroffensive against North Korea. After retiring in 1952, he served as the head of the United Nations Korean Reconstruction Agency until 1958, overseeing the expenditure of over $200 million for Korea's reconstruction.
