Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

The National Assembly Building was completed in August 1975, blending modern architectural style with traditional Korean beauty. It is said to be the largest single parliamentary building in East Asia. The bluish-green dome of the National Assembly Building is made of copper plates; when first constructed, it had the reddish color of the copper itself, but over time, the copper oxidized and gradually changed to its current color. This dome, with a base diameter of 64m and a weight of 1,000 tons, is supported by gray-white eaves and parapets, a high stylobate, and 24 octagonal columns. The 24 columns, each 32.5m high, symbolize the 24 solar terms, and the 8 columns at the front symbolize the 8 provinces of Korea. Additionally, the 24 columns surrounding the assembly hall represent the diverse opinions of the people, and the dome roof symbolizes the essence of parliamentary democracy, where the opinions of the people are gathered into a single conclusion through pros and cons debates.
