Mugunghwa Garden

Mugunghwa Garden is a public rest park established on the site of the former Central Intelligence Agency's Gungjeong-dong safe house. Originally, this area was within the grounds of the Blue House and access was prohibited, but after the road in front of the Blue House was opened in 1993, it was developed into a public park. Mugunghwa (Rose of Sharon) flowers are planted in a Taegeuk pattern, and a fountain in the shape of the Chinese character 'jeong' (well), symbolizing Gungjeong-dong, is placed in the center. A stone fortress wall made of natural stones surrounds the area, and flower beds are arranged along a 240-meter walking path. The flower beds contain 7,700 wildflowers from all over the country, and about 1,500 trees of 13 species, including mugunghwa, pine trees, and zelkova trees, are planted. Benches are placed here and there, serving as a resting place for nearby residents.
