Why travelers stop here
Located on a high hill between the Hangang Bridge and Noryangjin Station, Sayuksin Park was created by turning the area around the Sayuksin Tombs into a sacred site. The Sayuksin Tombs enshrine the six ministers (Sayuksin) who sacrificed their lives in 1456 (the 2nd year of King Sejo's reign) while attempting to restore King Danjong, the 6th monarch of Joseon, to the throne: Park Paeng-nyeon, Seong Sam-mun, Yi Gae, Ha Wi-ji, Yu Seong-won, and Yu Eung-bu. After King Danjong's uncle, Grand Prince Suyang, usurped the throne and ousted King Danjong in 1455 (the 3rd year of King Danjong's reign), these ministers, indignant at the injustice, plotted to restore King Danjong but were discovered and met a tragic end. To commemorate the loyalty and noble spirit of the Sayuksin, a Confucian academy was established here in 1681 (the 7th year of King Sukjong's reign), and a tombstone was erected in 1782 (the 6th year of King Jeongjo's reign). In 1955, a monument for the Sayuksin was also erected, and later the tomb area was expanded and renovated to honor the spirit of loyalty and filial piety. Originally, the tomb site contained only the graves of Park Paeng-nyeon, Seong Sam-mun, Yu Eung-bu, and Yi Gae, but later the graves of Ha Wi-ji, Yu Seong-won, and Kim Mun-gi were added and enshrined together. A history hall is also in operation to help understand the Sayuksin, so it is recommended to visit it as well. In spring, various flowers such as cherry blossoms bloom in Sayuksin Park, and in summer, the cool shade attracts many citizens who come to rest while reflecting on the loyalty of the Sayuksin. Additionally, from the observation point at Sayuksin Park, the scenery of Seoul unfolds at a glance, making it a popular spot for people to enjoy the night view.
