Seoul Yonsei University Stimson Hall

This is the first building built at Yonsei University, a two-story stone structure that began construction in 1919 and was completed in 1920. The founder of Yonsei University's predecessor, Yonhui College, missionary Underwood (Korean name: Won Du-woo) returned to his hometown in the United States and obtained a donation from Charles Stimson, who lived in Los Angeles, USA, for a permanent school building. After his death, his successor, President Avison, built it with that donation. Underwood's widow laid the cornerstone, and Miller, a chemistry professor at the time, supervised the construction. The architect is unknown, but it is said that American architects at the time came to Korea and prepared the design and basic plans. It has a rectangular floor plan, a gable roof, and is a Gothic-style building.
