Tomb of Yu Sun-jeong and His Son Yu Hong

This is the tomb of Yu Sun-jeong (1459~1512), a civil official of the early Joseon Dynasty, and his son Yu Hong (1483~1551), a military official. Yu Sun-jeong and Yu Hong were meritorious subjects, and this tomb was established in the 16th century. It is the only tomb of two generations of father and son meritorious subjects in Seoul today. The style of the stone objects placed in front of the tomb and the layout of the tomb site provide insight into the customs and systems of erecting tombs for meritorious subjects during the Joseon Dynasty, holding value in understanding burial practices. Yu Sun-jeong's tomb is a joint burial with his wife, with his tomb above and that of his wife, Lady Andong Kwon, below. To the left of the couple's tomb is a stele erected in 1567 (the 22nd year of King Myeongjong) to commemorate Yu Sun-jeong's life and achievements. The epitaph was composed by Gang Hon, who was the Mayor of Hanseong, and the calligraphy was written by Song In, a renowned calligrapher. About 150 meters southwest of Yu Sun-jeong's tomb, on a hill, lies the tomb of his son Yu Hong and other descendants. Address: Seoul, Guro-gu, Oryu-dong San 43-31, San 43-32
