The bust of Udan Lee Hoe-yeong was erected to commemorate the patriotic patriot Lee Hoe-yeong, who led the independence of Korea. Lee Hoe-yeong was born as the fourth son of Lee Yu-seung, a Panseo (minister) of the Joseon Dynasty. In 1905, he led a movement to thwart and nullify the conspiracy of the Eulsa Treaty, and persuaded Emperor Gojong to dispatch secret envoys to the Hague Peace Conference. However, in 1910, during the Gyeongsul National Disgrace, all six brothers and their families of about 50 people liquidated all their assets and went into exile. In Manchuria, he established the Shinheung Training Center, the predecessor of the Shinheung Military Academy, and in 1912, moved to Hapniha to begin full-fledged military officer education. Until its closure in 1920, the Shinheung Military Academy trained about 3,500 independence army officers, leading the independence war and laying the foundation for the founding of the Korean Liberation Army. When the Shanghai Provisional Government was formed, he participated as a member of the legislative council, and later supported the anarchist movement and the Uiyeoldan organization, while also forming the Anti-Japanese National Salvation League, which had the Black Terror Corps under its command, and devoted himself to armed resistance. While infiltrating local areas to coordinate joint anti-Japanese struggles between Chinese anti-Japanese units and independence army units, he was arrested in Dalian and transferred to Lüshun Prison. There, he died a martyr due to severe torture and starvation at the age of 66. The bust was erected by the Memorial Association to honor Lee Hoe-yeong's achievements, and is placed in front of the Seoul YWCA, where the marker stone for 'Lee Hoe-yeong and Lee Si-yeong Six Brothers' House Site' is located.
