Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Olympic Bridge is a bridge connecting Gwangjin-gu Guui-dong and Songpa-gu Pungnap-dong in Seoul. It was built to permanently commemorate the 24th Seoul Olympics, which marked the beginning of Korea's globalization, and to handle traffic around the Olympic stadium. It is the first concrete cable-stayed bridge in Korea, with a length of 1.5 km. Four main towers, each 88 meters high, symbolize the 88 Seoul Olympics, and their shape is modeled after the Olympic torch. The four towers represent the four pillars of year, month, day, and time, as well as the four seasons and four directions. The 24 cables signify the 24th Seoul Olympic Games, and their artistic value is excellent. Along with the construction of Olympic Bridge, a 2,500-pyeong road park and 24 commemorative sculptures, including a 6-meter-diameter five-ring symbolizing global harmony, were created on the southern riverside. Olympic Bridge was built to commemorate the Seoul Olympics and, as the first concrete cable-stayed bridge in Korea whose bridge type was selected through a public competition, it has left many records in the history of Korean bridges.
