Baengnyeonsa Temple (Gangbuk)

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Baengnyeonsa Temple is a temple belonging to the Korean Buddhist Taego Order, located at San 127-1, Suyu 4-dong, Gangbuk-gu, Seoul, on Samgaksan Mountain. Amidst the deep mountains of Bukhansan, many temples are situated. Some have a long history, while others remain only as sites with their names passed down. However, regardless of whether a temple's history is long or short, all are unchanged as the lotus sanctuary of the Buddha. Along the hiking trail from the April 19th National Cemetery to Daedongmun Gate, a small temple stands. Baengnyeonsa is a small temple that hikers simply pass by, but it was founded about 80 years ago in 1930 by Mrs. Lee Eun-soon with utmost devotion. Since then, many people have stayed here, establishing it as a place for practice and propagation. And today, as if existing yet not, it continues the Buddha's Dharma from that very spot.
