서울특별시 강남구 테헤란로7길 32 (역삼동)

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Kukkiwon opened on November 30, 1972, to inherit and develop the spirit and techniques of Taekwondo, a cultural heritage of the Republic of Korea, to promote its spread, and to contribute to human peace. The name 'Kukkiwon' is a compound word of 'Kukki' and 'Won'; 'Kukki' refers to Taekwondo as a unique art of a nation, and 'Won' means house, signifying the house that leads Taekwondo, also called the World Taekwondo Headquarters. Kukkiwon plays a pivotal role in further solidifying the foundation of Taekwondo as a traditional martial art and global sport, and in establishing it as a cultural content. Adjacent to Kukkiwon, the Kukkiwon Memorial Hall opened on November 30, 1991. It was established to widely promote Taekwondo by collecting, preserving, and displaying historical artifacts related to Taekwondo, and to globally promote Kukkiwon and Taekwondo as the home country of Taekwondo. Kukkiwon is located approximately 500 meters from Exit 12 of Gangnam Station on the Seoul Metropolitan Subway. Address: 32, Teheran-ro 7-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul (Yeoksam-dong)
